Practical Tips for Accessible Teaching Beginning with Universal Design for Learning Online
This workshop will offer an introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with specific attention to how UDL can support accessibility in your classes. The workshop explores both the principles of UDL and how these principles can be practically applied in low-effort ways that will increase accessibility for many students. Through looking at examples, we will also explore where there may be a need for specific accommodation for students with disabilities, and where and how to get support at the University of Guelph, Guelph-Humber and Ridgetown to do so.
By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Identify the principles of Universal Design for Learning and how these principles can support accessibility.
- Apply practical tools, ranging from those that can be immediately implemented to those that can be gradually integrated, to make teaching and learning more accessible.
- Reflect on ways in which you can implement accessibility into your courses starting this semester.
